The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has announced plans to withdraw its services nationwide starting October 7, 2025, citing prolonged neglect and unfair treatment. According to the association, over 200 junior doctors have reportedly worked for 10 to 14 months without pay, while others have had their salaries stopped without explanation. Additionally, more than 800 medical officers have been awaiting posting for over a year.
The JDA-GH emphasizes that the exploitation of junior doctors will no longer be tolerated and is demanding immediate action from the government. Key among their concerns are the payment of salary arrears and the posting of medical officers who have been awaiting deployment for an extended period. The association feels that despite several engagements with authorities, no lasting solution has been provided, leading to this drastic action.
As a result, the junior doctors have outlined a series of strike actions:
Outpatient services will be suspended from Tuesday, October 7 to Thursday, October 9, 2025.
Emergency services will be withdrawn from Friday, October 10, 2025, until further notice.
Inpatient care will continue until discharge, but no new admissions will be accepted.
The JDA-GH has placed responsibility for any disruption in healthcare services squarely on the Ministry of Health and the Government of Ghana, urging stakeholders to act immediately to resolve the crisis.
