The Member of Parliament for Abetifi and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has pledged his full support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should he emerge victorious in the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

According to Dr. Acheampong, party unity will be critical to the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general elections, stressing that he harbours no resentment over the outcome of the internal contest.

Speaking on Face to Face on Channel One  TV on Tuesday, December 23, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu, the Abetifi MP said he has formally committed himself to backing whoever wins the primary.

“We need a unifier. I will support him [Bawumia], 100%. I signed a document to that effect,” he stated.

Dr. Acheampong further disclosed that during a recent media engagement, one of the presidential aspirants failed to clearly indicate whether he would support Dr. Bawumia if he wins the primary.

Beyond the primaries, the MP outlined his intention to restore discipline within the NPP, noting that internal divisions and a culture of insults must be curtailed.

“I assured delegates that I will restore discipline in our party. There should be discipline, and someone must drive it, and I intend to,” he said.

He added that his campaign strategy has been inclusive and strongly rooted at the grassroots, with adequate logistical support reaching the polling stations.

“I intend to run a campaign in which everybody is relevant and becomes part of it. I will ensure resources get to the polling stations,” Dr. Acheampong noted.

Touching on his broader vision for national development, he stressed the need for bold and decisive leadership to transform Ghana’s economy.

“We need to transform our society, we need bold, decisive leadership, with someone who has gone through the mill of business and understands what it takes to create jobs, generate revenue and expand infrastructure. People must be more productive than we’re today,” he said.
