The Upper East Regional Police Command says it has commenced a manhunt for unknown gunmen who shot two Immigration Officers on the night of Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Naagani Basyonde in the Tempane District.
According to a police statement, the tragic incident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. when the officers were returning to base after routine foot patrol duties.
The attackers reportedly ambushed and opened fire on the officers, seizing two AK-47 rifles belonging to the Ghana Immigration Service before fleeing the scene.
The two wounded officers were rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for emergency treatment, but one of them was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other is receiving medical care.
In response, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a team of investigators and intelligence officers to Garu-Tempane to support ongoing efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapons.
The Upper East Regional Police Command, in a statement by Chief Inspector Abdul-Rahman Sumaila, Public Relations Officer, assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to bring those responsible to justice.
“The Command wishes to assure the general public that a thorough investigation is currently underway to unravel the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.
