Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged party delegates to stick to the NPP’s tradition of throwing their weight behind a repeat presidential candidate, arguing that this strategy has consistently delivered victory.
Speaking during his campaign tour in the Western North Region, including Sefwi Akontombra, Aowin, and Suaman, Dr. Bawumia asserted that the party’s history shows persistence and loyalty always pay off at the polls.

“One important thing in the NPP’s political history is that electorates tend to favour repeat candidates. If you look at the NPP’s history, it is difficult for a candidate to make a one-time claim to the Presidency,” he explained.
Citing the examples of the late Professor Adu-Boahen, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor, and Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that while these candidates failed on their first try, their persistence in subsequent attempts ultimately led to NPP victories. He therefore encouraged delegates to stick to this winning formula by supporting him to secure power for the NPP in 2028.
“Former President Kufuor won in 2000 after losing the 1996 polls. Similarly, former President Akufo-Addo won after three attempts,” Dr. Bawumia noted.
“I thus urge delegates to give me the nod to win power for the NPP in 2028.”
