The Barachel SDA Church in Ghana recently organized a health screening exercise, urging community members to prioritize their health through regular check-ups. The event, which drew a large crowd, offered free health services including blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, and eye screening.
Speaking at the event, a medical officer emphasized the importance of regular health checks, noting that many Ghanaians often neglect their health until it’s too late. “Health is wealth, and preventive care is key,” the officer stressed. Early detection and management of conditions like hypertension and diabetes can significantly improve health outcomes.
The Barachel SDA Church’s community outreach initiative aims to promote health awareness and provide accessible healthcare services to the community. The event was well-received, with many attendees appreciating the opportunity to take proactive steps towards better health.
Head Pastor of the Church, Pastor Francis Nana Takyi, said the outreach reflects the church’s commitment to holistic ministry.
“We cannot preach the Gospel without caring for the physical needs of the people. This is what Matthew 25 calls us to do,” he told GBC News.
Some residents who benefited from the free screening expressed appreciation for the initiative.
A resident, Mrs. Naana Osei-Tutu Adu, said the exercise has encouraged her to take her health more seriously. He added “I didn’t know my blood pressure was rising. I’m grateful because now I can take steps to control it.”
A resident of Lartebiokorshie, Mr. Daniel Bempah, noted that the advice he received will guide him to adopt healthier habits. “The nurses really educated us. I’ve learnt a lot about eating well and checking my sugar levels.”
And finally, Madam Esi Adjeley, a mother of three, commended the church for thinking about the community.
“They prayed with us, screened us, and even gave us food. It’s a blessing.”
The programme also featured prayer support, Christian literature distribution, and feeding, all aimed at strengthening both the spiritual and physical health of participants.
The Barachel SDA Church will climax its 10-year anniversary celebration on December 13, 2025.
