Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports Chairman, Ernest Norgbey, has announced a significant GH¢150 million allocation from the government to kickstart preparations for Ghana’s Black Stars ahead of their fifth World Cup appearance this summer.
The funds aim to give the national team a strong foundation as they gear up for the tournament hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking exclusively to Citi Sports, Norgbey highlighted the urgency of the investment.
“Well, when you talk of funding, the government has allocated about GH¢150 million for the preparation as we speak now,” he stated, underscoring the commitment to top-tier readiness despite potential delays in international support.

Norgbey noted that while FIFA will provide financial backing, those resources might arrive too late for immediate needs.
“But we still need funding because, yes, we know that FIFA will be giving us some amount of money, but that amount of money will not come before even the preparation,” he explained.
The Black Stars have already lined up crucial matches against Germany, Austria and Mexico in the upcoming international window to sharpen their edge.
Ghana kicks off their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, followed by a blockbuster clash with England on June 23, and wrapping up against Croatia on June 27.
