The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced significant progress in resolving the issue of unpaid salaries and allowances affecting health workers across Ghana. The government has secured financial clearance for 17,909 nurses, midwives, and allied health interns who began their national service in early 2024. Additionally, financial clearance has been granted for 13,500 nurses and midwives recruited and posted in late 2024, with renewed clearance to facilitate full payment, as their previous clearance was set to expire on December 31, 2024.
The Minister assured affected personnel of the government’s commitment to resolving inherited salary arrears and strengthening systems to prevent future occurrences. He urged health workers to remain calm and serve diligently while directing outstanding concerns to the appropriate authorities.
