The Global Media Alliance (GMA), in partnership with Women in PR (WiPR) Ghana, has once again held its annual Read4Her Future literacy and mentorship initiative. The 2025 edition took place on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Dzorwulu A & B Primary School in Accra, bringing together 100 girls from Primary 4 to 6.
The event, held ahead of the International Day of the Girl Child, aimed to empower young girls through the joy of reading and self-expression. The girls were inspired to see themselves as leaders and change-makers, capable of making a difference in their schools and communities. The day’s activities included lively and interactive reading sessions, discussions about friendship, kindness, and leadership, and the introduction of Reading Ambassadors.
The Reading Ambassadors, led by the MC, Mrs. Eunice Dede Tornyi, pledged to encourage their classmates to read and lead with confidence. The event also featured a book donation to the school’s library, establishing a Read4Her Future Corner, and a donation of sanitary pads to the girls. The author of the book, Afi and Kodjo: A Christmas Discovery, Ophelia Mawuena Ammamoo, delivered an inspiring talk, sharing her personal story of discovering storytelling as a way to express herself.
Emma Wenani, Chief Director of Global Media Alliance, expressed her delight at the success of the event, highlighting the importance of reading in building confidence and leadership skills. Edinam Adjei-Sika, Event and Programme Lead at Women in PR Ghana, emphasized the alignment between the initiative and this year’s theme, “The girl I am, the change I lead.” The Headmistress of Dzorwulu A & B Primary School, Madam Mamunatu Awudu, expressed deep appreciation to the organizers for inspiring the girls to read more, believe in themselves, and dream bigger.
The Read4Her Future initiative is a testament to the power of literacy and mentorship in empowering young girls. By providing them with the tools and support they need to succeed, we can help shape a brighter future for generations to come.
