Former President John Dramani Mahama has called on world leaders and development partners to take concrete actions towards advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality. Speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, Mahama emphasized the need for governments to translate commitments into tangible actions benefiting women and girls, particularly in Africa.
The former President highlighted the vulnerability of African women, urging fellow leaders to prioritize their welfare and empowerment. He stressed that gender equality is not only a matter of justice but also a driver of sustainable development. “When women succeed, families thrive, communities become stronger, and nations progress,” he added.
Drawing from Ghana’s experience, Mahama noted that investing in women yields measurable gains in productivity, innovation, and social cohesion. He therefore called on all governments and partners to move beyond platitudes and commit towards transformative action, emphasizing that the anniversary should mark a turning point in global efforts toward equality.
Mahama’s message underscores the importance of prioritizing women’s empowerment for sustainable development and the well-being of societies worldwide.
