Ghana’s Spintex Knights Basketball Club has made history again, booking their spot in the Divisional (West) Round of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers for the second consecutive time. The team secured second place in Group B of the Zonal qualifiers after a thrilling 63-53 win over Benin’s Elan Coton in their final group game. Abdul Aziz Yakubu rose to the occasion with a crucial 14-point, 11-rebound double-double performance off the bench, energizing the Ghanaian side. Forward Gatyang Yar Luak added 10 points, while James Amotoe contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists in just over 33 minutes, demonstrating the team’s resilience and depth.
The Knights’ victory saw them finish behind Cote D’Ivoire’s Jeunesse d’Abidjan, who topped the group with an unbeaten record after an emphatic 76-47 win over Liberia’s L.P.R.C. Oilers. With this win, the Spintex Knights have reinforced their ambition to become a permanent fixture on the BAL stage.
The team is expected to return to Ghana to continue domestic duties in the Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I playoffs, where they’ll aim to maintain their winning streak at home as they prepare for the next phase of their continental journey.
