Ghana’s Samson Deen Re-elected as African Paralympic Committee President

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has congratulated Samson Deen on his landslide re-election as President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC). Deen secured an impressive 95% of the votes, extending his tenure until 2029.

Deen’s re-election is a testament to his exceptional leadership and vision for the APC. During his first term, he implemented key initiatives to boost inclusivity, athlete participation, and visibility of Paralympic sports across Africa. SWAG praised Deen’s dedication to promoting equality and development in para-sports, ensuring African para-athletes receive world-class platforms to showcase their talents.

Deen secured 38 out of 40 votes, demonstrating overwhelming support from the African sporting community. He pledges to strengthen the Paralympic movement, prioritizing inclusivity, athlete participation, and visibility. Plans are underway to host the 2027 African Paralympic Games and the West African Para Games in Ogun State, Nigeria, this December 2025.

Ghana’s Ignatius Ellettey was also elected General Secretary of the APC, securing 36 out of 39 votes. Deen’s re-election has been met with praise from the Ghanaian sporting community, with SWAG recognizing him as a “tiresome champion for inclusion and equal opportunity in sports”
