Abeku Jackson, Ghana’s top swimmer, has been elected Vice Chairperson of the Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission, marking a historic milestone for Ghanaian swimming. This achievement makes him the first Ghanaian to serve on the continental body, representing athletes’ interests in governance and policy decisions.
Jackson’s impressive career includes winning five medals, four of which were gold, at the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships in Accra. He has also represented Ghana at several international competitions, including the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games, and ended Ghana’s long-standing medal drought at the 2023 African Games with silver and bronze finishes.
The Africa Aquatics Athletes Commission, chaired by Marc Pascal Pierre Dansou of Benin, with Holyantsa Rabejaona of Madagascar as Secretary, aims to ensure athletes’ voices are heard in decision-making and promote advocacy across Africa. Jackson’s leadership role is expected to strengthen Ghana’s influence in African swimming and inspire a new generation of athletes.
