The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Monrat, is advising Ghanaians planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup to submit their visa applications as early as possible. With the tournament approaching, Monrat warns that demand is expected to surge, and early applications will help avoid delays. While speaking on the country’s preparations for the upcoming tournament, the High Commissioner said that Canada is working closely with Mexico and the U.S. to ensure cohesion and coherence.
“We are working very closely with our colleagues in the U.S. and Mexico just to ensure that we have some cohesion and coherence in the way in which we approach the World Cup.
“My advice would be for people that are interested in attending the World Cup to ensure that they are putting in their visa application as early as possible. The best way is to go directly to the source to avoid scammers.
“Our objective is to ensure that the project is as smooth as possible; we are anticipating that there would be lots of demands hence my recommendation to actually put in an application as soon as possible” she said.
Monrat emphasized the importance of applying directly through official channels to avoid scammers promising guaranteed visas. “The best way is to go directly to the source to avoid scammers,” she said.
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted across Canada, the United States, and Mexico, featuring 48 teams. Monrat noted that the host countries are working closely to ensure a seamless experience for fans.
To apply, Ghanaians will need a valid passport, proof of funds, travel itinerary, and World Cup tickets (if purchased). The application process involves creating an IRCC account, completing the IMM 5257 form, paying the CAD $100 fee, and submitting biometrics.
