Ghana Launches High-Powered Committee to Drive Black Stars’ World Cup Success

Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has inaugurated an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to supervise the country’s preparation and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The committee, chaired by Sports Minister Hon. Kofi Adams, includes representatives from various ministries, the Ghana Football Association, and former footballer Abedi Pele.

The committee’s mandate goes beyond football, aiming to leverage the World Cup for socio-economic benefits, including tourism, trade, and diplomacy. Ghana secured qualification for the tournament with a 1-0 win over Comoros in October, marking its fifth World Cup appearance since 2006.

The government has allocated GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ participation, underscoring its commitment to sports development and national representation. The funds will cover preparations, logistics, and participation in the tournament, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Meanwhile, the government has allocated GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, announced this on Thursday, November 13, during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.

According to Dr. Forson, the allocation underscores the government’s commitment to sports development and national representation on the global stage. The funds are expected to support the Black Stars’ preparations, logistics, and participation in the tournament, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will jointly host.
