Ghana recently played host to the 2025 African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) General Assembly, a pivotal event that brought together representatives from 42 national Paralympic committees and 20 international observers. The assembly, held at the Marriott Hotel in Accra, marked a significant moment for Africa’s Paralympic movement, emphasizing inclusion, unity, and investment in para-sport across the continent.

Samson Deen was re-elected as President of the AfPC for a second four-year term, securing 38 out of 40 votes, with his leadership driving transformative progress, including Ghana hosting the inaugural African Para Games. Ignatius Elletey, also from Ghana, was elected General Secretary, cementing Ghana’s leadership role in continental para-sport governance. Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, emphasized the need for national investment in para-sport, accessible sports infrastructure, and a narrative shift to reshape public perceptions of disability. Adams praised para-athletes for overcoming immense barriers, saying, “Disability is not inability, and inclusion is not charity; it is justice”.

The assembly served as a celebration of resilience, vision, and the enduring belief that African sport is strongest when no one is left behind.
