The Ghanaian government has announced a further increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season. Effective October 3, 2025, the price has been raised to GH¢3,625 per 64kg bag, equivalent to GH¢58,000 per tonne. This decision was made by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), led by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
The new producer price represents a significant increase of GH¢400 more per bag for cocoa farmers. This adjustment aims to ensure Ghana’s farm gate price remains competitive, following the Ivory Coast’s recent price hike. The government had previously increased the producer price in August, raising it from $3,100 to $5,040 per tonne, a 62.58% jump in dollar terms.
The Finance Minister explained that the upward adjustment was necessary due to changes in the world market price and exchange rate projections. The new price translates to about 70% of the gross FOB price, ensuring that cocoa farmers benefit from the industry’s revenue.
With this increase, Ghana’s cocoa farmers will now earn a higher income, contributing to the country’s economy and the well-being of farming communities. The government’s commitment to supporting the cocoa industry is evident in its efforts to maintain a competitive producer price, ultimately benefiting the farmers and the nation’s economy.
