The Ministry of Defence has heightened security measures along Ghana’s eastern frontier in response to political instability in neighbouring Togo. Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi, revealed in Parliament on Thursday, November 6, 2025, that the Ministry has adopted a comprehensive contingency framework to address potential cross-border security threats.
The Ghana Armed Forces, in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies, has intensified joint patrols along the Ghana-Togo border to prevent infiltration, maintain territorial integrity, and safeguard the country’s sovereignty. Humanitarian logistics have been prepositioned at designated reception centres to manage possible refugee inflows should the situation in Togo escalate.
Troops have been instructed to exercise maximum restraint and engage only in response to direct and imminent threats. The Defence Ministry is incorporating local languages in its communication and information operations to enhance understanding and cooperation with local communities.
