The Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) has thrown its full support behind the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) demand for the Attorney General to prosecute officials responsible for the mismanagement and the grave infractions at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The Association, which represents electrical contractors nationwide, issued a press release expressing “deep concern” following recent PAC sittings that unveiled severe financial and operational issues under ECG’s previous leadership.
GECA highlighted the direct impact of the mismanagement on its members and on national energy infrastructure.
The release said the Committee’s findings point to unapproved procurement practices and excessive spending that have left ECG financially strained and operationally compromised.
“The situation is particularly disheartening for GECA members, as ECG owes contractors for work duly completed during the period in question.” The release lamented.

In view of the development, the release observed that the state power distributor continues to lack the essential materials required to complete critical projects aimed at expanding access and improving network efficiency.
GECA asserts that this situation has not only stalled progress in Ghana’s energy infrastructure but has also placed “undue hardship on contractors and professionals who have upheld their obligations in good faith”.
GECA fully supports the PAC’s recommendation, stating that accountability is essential to restoring public trust, safeguarding contractors livelihoods and ensuring that ECG can fulfill its core mandate to deliver reliable and efficient electricity services.
The Association called on all relevant authorities to “act swiftly and decisively” to ensure justice is served.
GECA said it remains committed to working with all stakeholders to uphold standards and protect the integrity of Ghana’s electrical sector.
