Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of six aspiring female recruits during a military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra on November 12, 2025. The incident, which occurred due to a stampede, also left several others injured, with five currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Akufo-Addo conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, wishing the injured a rapid recovery from their physical and emotional trauma. “I returned from Angola to the devastating news of the tragic deaths of six potential recruits into the Ghana Armed Forces… I convey to the bereaved families my deep condolences and wish the potential recruits in hospital a rapid recovery,” he wrote.

The incident has sparked widespread grief, with President John Dramani Mahama ordering the suspension of military recruitment activities in Accra and the Acting Defense Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, assuring a thorough investigation into the tragedy.
