The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has filed 78 charges against eight individuals, including former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, over their alleged roles in the controversial revenue assurance contracts between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).
The charges, which include conspiracy to commit procurement fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and abuse of public office for personal gain, stem from allegations that the multi-million-cedi contract was awarded without proper procurement processes, statutory approvals, or evidence of proven capacity by SML to execute the services it was contracted for.
Those Charged Include:
- Ken Ofori-Atta, former Finance Minister
- Ernest Darko Akore, former Chef de Cabinet at the Ministry of Finance
- Emmanuel Kofi Nti, former Commissioner General of the GRA
- Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner General of the GRA
- Isaac Crentsil, former Commissioner of the GRA Customs Division
- Kwadwo Damoah, former Commissioner of the Customs Division
- Evans Adusei, CEO of SML
- Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML)
The OSP alleges that the accused worked together to award contracts to SML, causing a financial loss of GH¢1.4 billion to the state. The charges have sparked public debate over the SML contracts, which were criticized for alleged irregularities and lack of parliamentary approval
