Forensic Audit to Decide National Cathedral’s Fate

President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the future of the National Cathedral project hinges on the outcome of a forensic audit currently underway. The audit aims to uncover financial irregularities and mismanagement allegations surrounding the stalled project.

Mahama emphasized the need for transparency, national consultation, and a realistic cost structure, describing the current $400 million projected cost as “unrealistic” and “excessive”. He suggested a a considering a more modest national worship center, capable of hosting significant national events like a Day of Thanksgiving, to better align with Ghana’s economic realities.

The Christian Council of Ghana has recommended that the government, Should Restate its commitment to the project. Expand funding sources to include churches, private sector stakeholders, and international partners. Position the cathedral as an interdenominational national symbol to foster unity among Ghanaians

The forensic audit report is expected to be ready within three weeks, after which the government will decide on the project’s future.
