The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the postponement of the District Assembly and Unit Committee by-elections, originally committee scheduled for November 11, 2025. The Commission cited no specific reason for the postponement but assured that new dates will be communicated in due course.
The decision puts on hold the electoral process intended to fill vacancies in various District Assemblies and Unit Committees across the country. These local government structures are critical for grassroots administration and community development. Stakeholders, including prospective candidates, political parties, and civil society organizations, are now awaiting further communication from the Commission regarding the timeline for the rescheduled by-elections.
In a press release signed by Mr. Fred Tetteh, Deputy Director of the Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation Department, the EC thanked citizens for their understanding and urged them to remain calm as the Commission prepares to announce updated timelines for the by-elections.
The Commission did not offer any detailed explanation for the decision.
