Bernard Mornah, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has expressed support for the removal of Electoral Commission (EC) Chair Jean Mensa, stating that it has been “long overdue”. This comes after a staff member of the EC, Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove Mensa and her two deputies, citing 12 counts of alleged misconduct, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence.
The petition, filed under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, claims that Mensa’s actions have undermined public confidence in the EC and threaten the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process. Adumadzie is calling on President Mahama to refer the petition to the Chief Justice to determine if there is a prima facie case against Mensa and her deputies.
Mornah’s comments add to the growing chorus of voices calling for Mensa’s removal, with critics accusing her of lack of transparency, partisan bias, and exclusionary practices. The outcome of the petition could lead to Mensa’s removal, exoneration, or further legal and political consequences
