Former Vice President and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says his political career is driven by a dedication to serve the people rather than a desire for personal wealth.
Addressing party supporters during his campaign tour of Amenfi West in the Western Region, Dr Bawumia stated that his record in public office reflects a commitment to integrity, efficiency, and the prudent use of national resources.
“I entered politics to serve the people, not to enrich myself,” he declared. “When we initiated the Mobile Money Interoperability project, the NDC had proposed a contract worth 1.2 billion dollars. We cancelled that deal and instead completed the entire project for just 4.5 million dollars, not even up to 5 million. We saved the nation several millions of dollars. This mobile money interoperability initiative has greatly benefited Ghanaians and created thousands of jobs.”
Dr Bawumia emphasized that his greatest satisfaction comes from the positive impact of the initiatives he has championed. He stressed that his motivation is not political power or self-interest, but the fulfillment that comes from seeing tangible results such as improved efficiency and access through digitalization.
“My greatest joy comes from seeing how these projects are transforming lives, not from personal gain. I am not in politics for money. I find my reward in knowing that these policies have directly and positively impacted the lives of ordinary citizens across every region and sector of the country. I am here to make a difference in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians,” he stated.
Dr Bawumia therefore urged delegates in Amenfi West and across the country to support his bid to lead the NPP in 2028.
