The 2025 Dodowa Ngmayem Festival Grand Durbar was a vibrant display of culture, unity, and gratitude, as the people of Dodowa, under the leadership of Nene Oklekmeku Atropa II, Dodowa Tadonya Matse, welcomed dignitaries, traditional leaders, and government officials to celebrate this year’s theme: “Environmental Protection, Unity, and Respect for Tradition.”
Though unable to attend in person, President John Dramani Mahama sent warm regards to the chiefs and people of Dodowa, urging them to “celebrate the moment” and remain steadfast in preserving Ghana’s cultural values. His message, delivered on his behalf by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, reflected humility and a deep appreciation for the community’s enduring support over the years.
Nene Oklekmeku Atropa II expressed deep appreciation to President Mahama for launching the Big Push Policy Initiative in Dodowa, a program that continues to inspire infrastructural development and youth empowerment across the region. “When someone does something for you, you must show appreciation,” Nene remarked, commending Mahama’s foresight in initiating transformative projects in the Shai-Osudoku District.
Hon. Julius Debrah reassured the gathering of the government’s continued commitment to the people of Dodowa and Ghana at large. “Next year when we come, we shall be accountable to you for the things you have asked and the promises we have made,” he emphasized. “We shall not slumber on our pledges; your trust will not be taken for granted.” His message struck a chord with the festival’s theme of unity and responsibility, earning standing ovations from the crowd.
Hon. Linda O. Awuni Ocloo, Greater Accra Regional Minister and MP for Shai-Osudoku, highlighted the role of women and small businesses in local economic growth. She pledged to collaborate with the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) to empower women traders and artisans within the district. “On my return, I will hold discussions with the leadership of the GEA to identify ways to enhance the business and livelihoods of our sisters, mothers, and market women,” she assured.
The Grand Durbar grounds of Presby Basic B, Dodowa, came alive with the sounds of traditional drums, chants, and vibrant kente displays. The event gathered political, traditional, and community leaders, a true reflection of Ghana’s enduring unity and respect for heritage. As the sun set over Dodowa, the words that lingered were those of renewal that the people’s voice will always guide leadership, and leadership will always remain accountable to the people.
