The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) is warning Ghanaians to be cautious of online shopping scams disguised as Black Friday deals. Between January and October 2025, the CSA recorded 266 cases of online shopping fraud, resulting in losses of over GH¢600,000.

Scammers are creating fake online profiles, especially on social media, to sell non-existent goods and services at unbeatable prices. They also mimic legitimate brands on search engines, using optimization techniques to manipulate search results and list their contact information at the top.

The CSA advises consumers to verify contact details through official websites or reliable sources, check user reviews, and limit shopping to reputable online stores. They should also be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true and insist on payment after delivery and inspection of products.

The Cyber Security Authority has therefore recommended that the public check via official websites or reliable sources to validate the contact details of shops/businesses rather than relying solely on search engine results. Additionally, they must check user reviews to verify the reputation of the contact.

They are also to limit shopping to reputable and well-known online stores and exercise caution with unfamiliar shopping sites.

The public must be cautious of phone calls, emails or messages promising deals that seem too-good-to-be-true and insist on payment after delivery and inspection of products.

The Cyber Security Authority has a 24-hour Cybersecurity/Cybercrime Incident Reporting Point of Contact (PoC) for reporting cybercrimes and receiving guidance/clarification on suspected scams. Contact us via Call or Text-292, WhatsApp-0501603111 or Email-report@csa.gov.gh.
