A Los Angeles jury has cleared Cardi B of all civil assault charges brought against her by former security guard Emani Ellis. The verdict, delivered on September 2, 2025, finds Cardi B not liable for any wrongdoing stemming from an altercation outside a Beverly Hills medical office in 2018.
The dispute arose when Cardi B, who was pregnant with her first child at the time, visited an obstetrician’s office. Ellis, working as a security guard, allegedly followed and filmed her without consent. Cardi B claimed she felt threatened and harassed, leading to a heated verbal exchange between the two women.
During the trial, Cardi B testified that she never touched or spat on Ellis, contradicting Ellis’s claims of a physical attack. She described the encounter as a “verbal altercation” and stated that she told Ellis to “get out of my face” while yelling obscenities. Cardi B’s lawyer emphasized that she feared for her unborn baby’s safety during the incident.
The doctor and receptionist present at the office, including Tierra Malcolm, testified in support of Cardi B’s account. Malcolm stated that Ellis was the aggressor, swinging her arms and attempting to hit Cardi B, which resulted in a cut on Malcolm’s head.
After less than an hour of deliberation, the jury unanimously cleared Cardi B of all charges. Outside the courthouse, Cardi B expressed relief and warned against future frivolous lawsuits, stating, “Don’t you ever think that you’re going to sue me, and I’m just going to settle and give you my money. It’s not going to happen.” Fans showed their support, with one sign reading, “If the nail don’t fit, u must acquit,” a nod to the OJ Simpson trial.
Ellis has announced plans to appeal the decision, claiming it doesn’t reflect the truth. Meanwhile, Cardi B is moving forward, preparing for the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album, “Am I the Drama?”, scheduled for September 19.
