The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declined Asante Kotoko’s request to use the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary round. The Porcupine Warriors will now play the crucial first leg tie at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 19, 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 pm GMT.
The decision comes after CAF’s inspection team deemed the Baba Yara Stadium unfit to host the continental fixture, citing that it doesn’t meet the required standards. Kotoko had hoped to return to their home ground in Kumasi following renovation works, but CAF’s inspection ruled otherwise.
The match is part of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup, and Kotoko will be looking to make a strong impression against Wydad Athletic Club. The Porcupine Warriors have had a good run in the competition, having beaten Nigeria’s Kwara United 5-3 on aggregate to progress to the second round.
Before facing Wydad, Kotoko will take on city rivals Nations FC on Saturday, October 11. The team has shown promising form in the Ghana Premier League, with two wins and a draw in their last three matches. With the change of venue, Kotoko will have to adapt quickly and prepare for the crucial match against Wydad at the Accra Sports Stadium.
