The Interior Ministry has launched an investigation into alleged assassination attempts on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) Boss. The OSP Boss has reportedly received threats to his life, and the ministry is taking the matter seriously.
According to sources, the alleged attempts are believed to be linked to the OSP’s ongoing investigations into corruption and other malpractices. The OSP Boss has been receiving protection from security agencies since the threats began.
The Interior Ministry has assured the public that it will leave no stone unturned in investigating the matter and bringing the perpetrators to justice. The OSP has also expressed its commitment to continuing its work, despite the threats.
Details of the Alleged AttemptsThe alleged attempts on the OSP Boss’s life are said to have occurred on multiple occasions, with the most recent incident happening yesterday. The details of the attempts are still emerging, but sources close to the matter say the OSP Boss is safe and secure.
Reaction from the OSP has issued a statement condemning the alleged attempts and thanking the security agencies for their support. “We will not be intimidated or deterred from our work,” the statement read. “We will continue to serve the people of Ghana with integrity and dedication.”
Government’s ResponseThe government has also condemned the alleged attempts, with the Minister of Information saying the attacks will not be tolerated. “The government will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge soon.
The allegations first surfaced when the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research, and Communications, Samuel Appiah Darko, stated on the Newsfile programme in Accra on December 6 that Mr. Agyebeng had been targeted in two failed assassination attempts while performing his official duties.
Darko further alleged that he had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
In a press release issued on Monday, December 8, the Ministry indicated that while the claims carry serious national security implications, they also risk undermining government efforts to strengthen anti-corruption measures. As a result, the Ministry has initiated preliminary checks.
According to the Ministry, initial contact with Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng revealed that the alleged assassination attempts reportedly occurred before 2025. Additionally, security agencies and police stations across the country have no record of threats reported by the Special Prosecutor.
Given the gravity of the claims, the Minister for the Interior has ordered a full-scale probe into both matters. The first investigation will focus on the alleged assassination attempts against Mr. Agyebeng, with the Ministry stressing that crimes of such nature do not expire. A second inquiry will examine the allegation by Mr. Appiah Darko that he was assaulted by multiple police officers.
