Former Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has committed to fully completing the Agenda 111 program if the party returns to power. The initiative, championed by Dr. Bawumia, aims to provide quality medical facilities to every district in Ghana without a hospital. This ambitious project includes constructing modern 100-bed facilities with accommodation for doctors, nurses, and other health workers.

100-bed facilities in districts without hospitals to improve access to quality healthcare. Construction of hospitals in six newly created regions to enhance regional healthcare delivery. Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region will be renovated to improve healthcare services. Two new psychiatric hospitals will be constructed, one in Kumasi and one in Tamale, to address mental health needs
Dr. Bawumia expressed disappointment that the current government has abandoned the project despite its advanced stage of completion. “Nine months into their tenure, there’s no indication that they are completing them to improve access to healthcare. This is very worrying,” he stated. He assured that the next NPP government will prioritize completing these hospitals, which will not only save lives but also create jobs for Ghana’s youth.

The Agenda 111 program is part of the government’s efforts to improve healthcare access and quality. According to the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research, 92% of the Agenda 111 health project has been completed. The government plans to prioritize the completion of projects that are over 80% complete, with a focus on domestic funding and potential public-private partnerships.
