South Africa’s Bafana Bafana secured a narrow 1-0 win over Ghana’s Black Galaxies in a pre-Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) friendly match at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. The match served as a crucial warm-up for South Africa, while Ghana used the opportunity to test their home-based squad ahead of the CHAN qualifiers.
Sipho Mbule scored the decisive goal in the 57th minute, capitalizing on space at the edge of the box to give South Africa the lead. Ghana pushed for an equalizer, with Rudolf Mensah coming close to scoring, but his effort hit the post.
The victory provides a morale boost for South Africa as they head to Morocco for the 2025 AFCON, while Ghana will look to take positives from the match as they prepare for the CHAN qualifiers.
Ghana countered sporadically with sharp breaks, generating moments of promise but faltering against Bafana Bafana’s stubborn backline. Coach Kassim Mingle Ocansey praised the “invaluable test” against a top-tier side, pinpointing attacking refinement as the key takeaway for his squad’s looming CHAN campaign.
Both teams depart with purpose: South Africa fortified for Morocco’s spotlight, and the Black Galaxies battle-hardened for domestic redemption. The narrow scoreline belies a gritty affair that promises fireworks when these nations meet in earnest.
