The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to host the final peace talks on the Bawku chieftaincy conflict at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on November 30 and December 1, 2025. This marks the concluding stage of his mediation efforts to resolve the long-standing dispute between the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions.
The talks, described as the “concluding session” by the Manhyia Palace and the National Peace Council (NPC), aim to bring lasting peace and stability to the Bawku area, which has been plagued by violence and tensions over traditional leadership for years.
In a statement, the Asantehene praised both sides for their positive approach to the mediation process and appealed to all concerned to avoid any actions that could derail progress toward a lasting solution.
The Bawku conflict has resulted in hundreds of deaths, displacement of families, and disruption of socio-economic activities in the Upper East Region. The Asantehene’s mediation efforts are part of broader national efforts to restore peace and stability to the area.
The NPC has expressed optimism about the outcome of the talks, citing the Asantehene’s leadership and structured engagement as key factors in achieving lasting peace.
