The Article 146 Committee of Inquiry has formally presented its first report on petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to President John Mahama. The Committee, inaugurated on May 15, 2025, held its proceedings in camera and received testimony from the petitioners and the Chief Justice.
After a critical examination of the evidence, the Committee arrived at a recommendation on the first petition, which was handed over to the President in a sealed envelope. The Committee granted an adjournment for the second petition and expects to submit reports on the second and third petitions in due course.
The Chairman of the Committee, Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, emphasized that the Committee’s deliberations were conducted with fairness and transparency within the confines of constitutional requirements. The Committee’s work highlights the importance of upholding the Constitution and ensuring due process in addressing petitions against high-ranking officials.
