The Ghana Police Service in the Ahafo Region has arrested three suspects for the unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition and drones, allegedly in preparation for a robbery.
At a media briefing in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) James Annor, said the suspects, Johnson Mawutor, 26, and Kelvin Ofori, 22, were arrested by the Regional Taskforce Patrol team on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m.
According to DCOP Annor, the two men were riding an unregistered motorbike along the Ayomso–Goaso road towards Ayomso when officers on patrol spotted them.
On noticing the police presence, the suspects reportedly switched off the motorbike’s headlights and attempted to flee, but the patrol team gave them a chase and successfully apprehended them.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of an AK-47 assault rifle (serial number 68098152) loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, concealed in a bag they were carrying.
Further investigations and a subsequent search at the residence of Johnson Mawutor at Abrodanho, a suburb of Goaso, uncovered additional weapons and items suspected to be linked to a planned robbery. These included a Beretta Bruni pistol (MOD.92), an NM157-1941 pistol, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

Police also retrieved four Motorola handsets, a Contiso F35 drone, a machete and a bionette knife, which investigators believe may have been intended for use in criminal activity.
Preliminary investigations, DCOP Annor disclosed, indicate that Johnson Mawutor, together with Mawuli Dogba and another suspect, Mohammed Adinan Ussif, who is currently at large, allegedly acquired the weapons on the day of their arrest from Techiman in the Bono East Region.
He said police efforts are underway to track down Mohammed Adinan Ussif and any other accomplices connected to the case.
Meanwhile, Johnson Mawutor, Mawuli Dogba and Kelvin Ofori remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before the court on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
The Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP James Annor, assured the residents, particularly the people of Ahafo, of the police’s commitment to providing a peaceful and safe environment for all.
He also urged members of the public to continue volunteering credible information to the police to help safeguard lives, property and legitimate businesses.
