Pius Enam Hadzide, spokesperson for Bryan Acheampong’s campaign team, has denied allegations that the former Food and Agriculture Minister hoarded fertilizers meant for farmers during the 2024 dry spell. Hadzide described the claims as “false, scandalous, and politically driven”, stating that Acheampong facilitated the importation and nationwide distribution of fertilizers to support Ghanaian farmers ¹ ² ³.
According to Hadzide, Acheampong’s role was to ensure fertilizers reached every region, and it’s not his responsibility to distribute them directly to farmers. He attributed any delays or lapses in distribution to local governance structures, emphasizing that blaming the sector minister is a desperate attempt to deflect attention.
The controversy has sparked a heated debate, with former Upper East MDCEs refuting Acheampong’s claims and demanding a retraction. They argue that fertilizers were not delivered months before the election, as before, only 5% of the allocated fertilizers arrived in districts during the election week.
