Baba Jamal, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, is set to be sworn in as Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East today, filling the seat left vacant after the death of Mahama Naser Toure in January.
Jamal, who won the by-election held on 3 March secured 10,884 votes, defeating his main challenger Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 4,009 votes. Independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda garnered 1,885 votes, while other minor candidates split the remaining ballots.
A total of 17,048 votes were cast, including 120 rejected ballots.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, Jamal expressed humility and commitment to serving his constituents.
“Indeed, Allah’s ways are perfect. I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together with you to build a brighter and greater future for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” he said.
The swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, formally enabling Jamal to take his seat in Parliament.
