The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has emphasized the critical need to foster a supportive atmosphere for Ghana’s Black Stars at this year’s World Cup in the USA and Canada.

Speaking in Parliament, he called for private funding to transport fans to the host nations, arguing that a vibrant crowd is essential for the team’s success.

“We all know that a team alone cannot just go and then participate and come back. The team does well based on a certain atmosphere,” Ayariga stated.

He stressed creating an enabling environment in the tournament venues to help the Black Stars deliver their best performance.

Drawing from his experience as a former post-minister during the African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, Ayariga recalled mobilizing the local Guinean community.

“I had to commit a few days before the tournament to travel to some of the major cities in Equatorial Guinea to meet the Guinean community and convince them to leave their work and travel… to Malabo and Mongomo,” he said, noting the costs involved in providing buses and tickets.

Ayariga highlighted that while state funds should not be used, echoing a recent Commission’s report to avoid past abuses, private channels must step up.

“It might even be necessary to support our supporters’ unions to go there… So we have to resort to raising funds through other channels to be able to support the Black Stars,” he urged.

Commending the Minister for Sports and Education for leadership, Ayariga described the initiative as “very welcome.”

His remarks underscore Ghana’s determination to rally global support for the Black Stars, blending national pride with strategic fan mobilization ahead of the global showdown.
