In order to alleviate infrastructure deficits confronting basic, second cycle and tertiary institutions in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, Francis Addo Akumatey, together with the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, and MP for Yilo Krobo, Dr. Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey, have broken ground, for the construction of 10 educational projects in the municipality.
The projects which are GETFund projects are to help improve effective teaching and learning at the basic, second cycle and the tertiary levels in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
The projects include a 900-bed capacity hostel block for University of Environment and Sustainable Development, UESD, Somanya, a three-storey 18-unit classroom block, a two-storey Girls Dormitory Block and a two-storey Boys Dormitory Block for Yilo Krobo Senior High School, YIKROSEC. Other projects are four-unit two-bedroom semi-detached bungalow, three-bedroom headmistress bungalow, two-storey administration block with library and a dining hall with kitchen for the Klo-Agogo Senior High School.

The Somanya Presby JHS is not left out. Projects on its compus include a two-storey six-unit classroom block with six-unit staff quarters. Others are, two-storey six-unit classroom block, with six-unit staff quarters for Somanya Sra Presby Basic School, and six-unit classroom block for Aboabo Methodist Basic School.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the MCE for Yilo Krobo, Mr. Akumatey, reiterated his commitment to help provide conducive teaching and learning environment to ensure effective delivery of quality education in the municipality. Mr. Akumatey noted that the groundbreaking for the construction of the facilities in the municipality is in fulfilment of promises President John Dramani Mahama made to Krobo people to alleviate infrastructure deficits in the education sector across the country.
“The people of Yilo Krobo are very grateful to H.E John Dramani Mahama for keeping to his promises to the people of the Krobo land”, said Mr. Akumatey.

The MCE commended the Advisor to the President on the Economy, Seth Terkper for his unflinching support to the people of Krobo and his support in lobbying for the projects.
“Our thanks also goes to Former Finance Minister, now Advisor to the President on the Economy; Hon Seth Terkper for his unflinching support to the people of the Krobo land. Your brothers and sisters are proud of you”, the Yilo Krobo MCE reiterated.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey emphasized that quality education thrives where teaching and learning environment is supportive and well-structured.
At Aboabo, the Chiefs and the people commended the government, the MCE, MP and the Regional Minister for equipping and commissioning their CHPS compound and also for coming to the aid of the school by cutting sod for the building of six-unit classroom block for their school.
They promised to support the contractor to ensure the completion of the project within the stipulated time. At Klo-Agogo, the chiefs and the people offered a traditional prayer to seek for protection and good health for the President and his government as well as his appointees from the Kroboland.
