The event aimed to promote inclusivity and raise awareness about the rights and needs of persons with disabilities in Ghana.

In her address, Minister Lartey emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities. She highlighted the importance of creating a more inclusive society, where everyone has equal opportunities to participate and contribute.

The commemoration event featured various activities, including cultural performances, exhibitions, and discussions on disability issues. The event provided a platform for persons with disabilities to share their experiences and advocate for their rights.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening policy frameworks, expanding social protection interventions, and collaborating closely with agencies including the NCA, Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, Ministry of Education, and development partners to promote equitable access to digital tools and assistive technologies.

Dr. Lartey stressed that technology is now a critical determinant of whether persons with disabilities can learn, work, communicate, and participate fully in national development. She announced that the review of the Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715), has been completed and is currently undergoing final stakeholder consultations before submission to Cabinet.

Addressing participants, the President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), Mr. Joseph Atsu Homadzi, emphasised the urgent need to ensure that persons with disabilities are not excluded from Ghana’s growing digital ecosystem. He reminded institutions that disability concerns affect everyone and called for intentional policies and digital systems that reflect the diverse needs of all disability groups.

As part of the commemoration, the Minister joined other dignitaries to officially launch a new book titled “An Evolution of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations.” Authored by a long-serving disability advocate, the publication documents the history, achievements, and activism of Ghana’s disability movement.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustained collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure that no person with a disability is left behind in Ghana’s development agenda.
