Ghana’s young table tennis talents are set to embark on an elite training programme in China, a country renowned for its exceptional table tennis training facilities and expertise. The programme, which aims to nurture and develop the skills of young African players, is a collaborative effort between the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA).
The training programme will provide Ghana’s young table tennis stars with the opportunity to learn from world-class coaches and train alongside top Chinese players. The programme’s focus on technical precision, physical conditioning, and tactical awareness is expected to help the young athletes improve their skills and compete at the highest level.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote table tennis development in Africa and create opportunities for young players to gain international experience. The ITTF has been working with various stakeholders to establish training centres and programmes across the continent, with China playing a key role in providing expertise and resources.
The director of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, Mawuko Afadzinu, expressed his enthusiasm about the invitation, stating, “This rarefied invitation is a significant opportunity for the nation, and for the participating players and officials, as the Global Youth training camp is an elite super high-performance training programme for the best global prospects in table tennis.”
The Ghana Table Tennis Association is committed to developing the sport in the country, and this programme is a testament to their efforts. The association is optimistic that the training will help the young talents to improve their skills and compete at the international level.
The contingent’s participation in the programme is expected to raise the profile of table tennis in Ghana and inspire other young players to take up the sport.
