The Minority Caucus in Parliament has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for the decline in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. The Caucus, led by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ranking Member on the Education Committee, expressed disappointment with the results, citing a significant drop in performance in core subjects such as Mathematics, Social Studies, Integrated Science, and English Language.
According to the results, Mathematics recorded a pass rate of 48.73%, down from 66.86% in 2024, while Social Studies dropped to 55.82% from 71.53% in 2024. Integrated Science and English Language also saw declines, with pass rates of 57.74% and 69%, respectively.
The Minority Caucus attributed the decline to the NDC government’s failure to maintain the gains made by the previous administration. “We built it, they broke it,” Dr. Adutwum stated, emphasizing that the NDC should have built upon the strong foundation laid by the previous government.
The Caucus also criticized the Ghana Education Service (GES) for attributing the poor performance to candidates’ natural abilities and stricter invigilation, calling the explanation “embarrassing and troubling.
The Minority Caucus in Parliament says it has observed “with shock and disappointment” the poor performance recorded in the 2025 WASSCE results released a few days ago.
It said a close look at the four core subjects shows a marked decline compared to the 2024 outcomes.
According to the Caucus, English Language scored 69%, Mathematics 48.73%, Integrated Science 57.74% and Social Studies 55.82%. It noted that in 2024, the same subjects recorded 69.52%, 66.86%, 58.77% and 71.53% respectively.
