The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has demanded an immediate suspension of the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise nationwide, following a tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium that claimed six lives and left several others injured. Annoh-Dompreh urged the Ministry of Defence to appear before Parliament to brief the nation on the safety measures being implemented to prevent similar disasters in the future.

President John Dramani Mahama has also ordered the suspension of the recruitment exercise, citing the need for a thorough investigation into the incident and reforms to prevent further casualties. The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that six people, all young women, lost their lives in the stampede, and has urged the public to disregard any unverified reports.

The incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for improved crowd management and safety protocols during large-scale public events. The Minority Party is advocating for the decentralization of the recruitment process to reduce congestion and minimize risks associated with large gatherings.
