Richard Kirk Mensah, Western Region Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to completing all stalled projects in the region under the Mahama administration. Speaking on Connect FM’s Morning Show, Mensah addressed concerns about the fate of ongoing projects, particularly in Sekondi-Takoradi, where several capital-intensive projects have stalled or gone past their expected completion dates.
The NDC’s commitment comes after operatives of the Akufo-Addo administration allegedly spread false notions that the NDC would abandon ongoing projects if they returned to power. Mensah emphasized that governance is a continuum and that the Mahama administration will not shy away from completing these projects.
One notable project is the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment, which has been allocated funds and is expected to be completed by June 2026. Upon completion, the market will be handed back to the traders by the close of the same year. Mensah also highlighted the Agona Nkwanta Road project, which stalled due to non-payment of certificates by the previous administration. Despite this, the current government has made some payments, allowing work to continue.
The Sekondi-Takoradi dualisation project, which was originally scheduled to begin in 2019, has also been a point of concern. Mensah explained that difficulties in accessing counter-funding delayed the clearing of heavy equipment from the port and led to cost variations. However, the NDC government has made significant payments since taking office, and Mensah expressed optimism that the project will be completed soon.
In a bold statement, Mensah declared that he would not have the moral fortitude to campaign if the stalled projects remain incomplete after four years, underscoring the NDC’s determination to deliver on its promises. The party remains committed to addressing funding gaps and completing all ongoing projects in the Western Region.
