Health Minister Seeks Leniency for Nurse in Viral Controversy

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called on the Ghana Health Service to show compassion to Bernice Aboagye, a staff nurse facing disciplinary action for allegedly making unprofessional remarks about him on social media. In a statement signed by Ministry spokesperson Tony Goodman, Akandoh acknowledged the query letter circulating online and commended the Ghana Health Service for upholding professional standards.

While emphasizing the importance of constructive criticism and diverse opinions in the health sector, Akandoh urged the Service to “temper justice with mercy” in handling the matter. He encouraged health workers to express themselves responsibly and respectfully, noting that open dialogue fosters growth and development in the sector.

The Ministry reiterated its support for lawful demonstrations as a constitutional right but cautioned against abusive language and indiscipline during such events. Health professionals are reminded to maintain professionalism and decorum in their public communication and social media engagements.
